COVID-19: Support from DMEA
March 19, 2020 — As a result of the increasing threat of COVID-19, Delta-Montrose Electric Association (DMEA) has suspended all residential, small commercial, and agriculture service disconnects for non-pay, effective Monday, March 16. The same holds true for DMEA’s fiber internet subsidiary, Elevate Internet.
DMEA recognizes that the local economy is already being impacted by threat of COVID-19: businesses are experiencing reduced sales with some at the risk of closure, and many individuals are coping with reduced hours at work or restricted pay.
With these financial insecurities looming large, DMEA will not disconnect residential, small commercial, or agriculture members who are unable to pay their electric bill. This will remain in effect until further notice or until the State of Emergency has passed. Members who are experiencing financial hardship, are encouraged to contact DMEA immediately.
The following organizations also offer assistance with electric bills:
- Low Income Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP) :866-432-8435; ends in April
- Montrose County Health and Human Services: 970-252-5000
- Delta County Health and Human Services: 970-874-2030
- The Department of Veteran Affairs
- Energy Outreach Colorado
- MADA: 970-249-4774
As a reminder, DMEA’s offices are closed to the public until further notice. The co-op has also implemented a strict social distancing policy and is requesting members refrain from approaching crews and contractors who are still working in the field. These measures have been put in place to help keep co-op employees and members safe.
