DMEA Welcomes Scott Breithaupt as New Safety Director

August 28, 2026

Delta-Montrose Electric Association (DMEA) has named Scott Breithaupt as its new Safety Director, bringing more than two decades of electric industry experience and a deep commitment to serving DMEA members and communities to the role.

“Safety isn’t simply a program or a set of requirements—it’s about building and supporting a culture where taking care of one another comes first,” said DMEA CEO Jack Johnston. “Our employees work in challenging environments every day, and we owe it to them to provide the training, resources, and support necessary to do their jobs safely. Scott brings tremendous experience and a strong understanding of our operations to this role, and I’m confident he will help us continue building a culture where safety comes first.”

Scott joined DMEA in August 2017 as a Journeyman Lineman and has 21 years of experience in the electric industry. Before joining DMEA, he worked for Pacific Gas and Electric (PG&E) and Colorado Springs Utilities, where he helped construct and maintain electric infrastructure. In his former role as a DMEA Serviceman, he responded to outages throughout the area, working directly with members and helping during some of their most challenging moments.

“Safety has always been a fundamental part of the work we do at DMEA, and I’m honored to take on a role that allows me to help strengthen that culture across our cooperative,” said Breithaupt. “My experience in the field has shown me that looking out for one another, taking the time to do things safely, and never becoming complacent are critical to making sure everyone goes home safely at the end of the day.”

Scott has also demonstrated a strong commitment to service beyond DMEA’s local service territory. For the past two years, he has volunteered with DMEA’s Light Up Navajo team, traveling to remote communities to help bring reliable electricity to families who have never had access to it.

As Safety Director, Scott will lead DMEA’s comprehensive safety and loss prevention program, focusing on protecting employees and cooperative assets while supporting the reliable delivery of power and internet services.
