DMEA Invests in the Next Generation Through Youth Leadership Programs

Four local high school students have been selected to represent Delta-Montrose Electric Association (DMEA) in national and statewide youth leadership programs this year, gaining hands-on experience in government, teamwork, and the cooperative model.
“We’re proud to congratulate these outstanding students on earning this opportunity,” said Jack Johnston, DMEA CEO. “Investing in local youth is an important part of who we are. These programs create meaningful opportunities for students to grow as leaders, and we’re excited to support their journey and the bright future they represent for our communities.”
Each year, DMEA sponsors students for the National Rural Electric Youth Tour in Washington, D.C., and the Cooperative Youth Leadership Camp in Colorado. These programs provide high school students with opportunities to strengthen communication skills, gain insight into government and the cooperative business model, and build leadership potential.
This year’s student delegates include:
Youth Tour Delegate:
Conner Luttrell – Montrose High School
Youth Leadership Camp Delegates:
Kayla Braaten – Montrose High School
Alejandro Nunez – Montrose High School
Gavin Ranstrom – Montrose High School
Through the Youth Tour, one student will travel to Washington, D.C., to explore American history, meet peers from across the country, and gain firsthand insight into how electric cooperatives serve communities.
Leadership Camp participants will engage in hands-on activities, learn how electricity is generated, and build teamwork and leadership skills.
