Public Safety Reminder: Keep Power Poles Clear

Delta-Montrose Electric Association (DMEA) is reminding residents, businesses, and contractors that attaching nails, tacks, staples, signs, posters, decorations, fencing materials, or any other objects to power poles is strictly prohibited.

Power poles are essential components of the electric distribution system and must remain free of unauthorized attachments to ensure safe and reliable service.

These items create serious safety risks for DMEA linemen, who climb poles to perform maintenance, inspections, and repairs. Hidden nails or staples may cause injuries or interfere with climbing gear and safety equipment. Over time, repeated punctures may also weaken the structural integrity of poles, increasing the likelihood of damage and reducing their service life.

In addition to safety and infrastructure concerns, unauthorized attachments violate the National Electrical Safety Code and other applicable regulations and may result in fines or enforcement actions. They can also obstruct routine maintenance and slow emergency repairs during outages, potentially delaying service restoration for entire neighborhoods.

The public is asked to keep all materials off utility poles. Community cooperation helps protect DMEA linemen, improve system reliability, and reduce unnecessary maintenance costs.
